Description

eSense is a Integrated Project set up by the European Commission and aims to capture Ambient Intelligence for mobile communications through Wireless Sensor Networks.

Linking together information coming from numerous wirelessly connected sensors in the environment allows to deduce the user's current emotional state, social setting, and general environment. Applications will be able to use this information to provide their services in an unobstrusive and intelligent way to users.

Objectives

• design of efficient and secure sensor node architectures
• ultra low power air-interfaces
• energy and bandwidth efficient communication protocol stack
• cross layer design encompassing PHY/MAC/Network/Transport functionalities
• distributed processing middleware and resource management
• context classification and presentation to service platforms

Wearlab Contributions

The Wearable Computing Lab works on how sensor data and context information can be processed in a distributed and collaborative way on the sensor networks. As users wearing mobile systems frequently change from one network to another, context recognition algorithms need to find and select the most suitable sensors at any time.
